Foundations and Security

Welcome to the New Year of 2020 with seven energy points in the sign of Capricorn on January 1, 2020: Mercury, Jupiter, Moon’s South Node, Sun, Ceres, Saturn, and Pluto. In many ways this energy actually started on December 2, 2019 when Jupiter entered the sign of Capricorn. The last time that a Capricorn stellium occurred was between 1995 and 1997. With all this energy in Capricorn, you feel the need to be responsible for your life. You want to understand how to develop foundations that increase your sense of security.
Mercury in Capricorn is going to be very important from the start of January until January 16th when it enters the sign of Aquarius. The reason that it will be important is because it moves fast enough to form conjunctions to each of the energy points in Capricorn. And, all of this starts when Mercury forms a conjunction to Jupiter on January 2nd.
In general, when Mercury is in Capricorn you take yourself very seriously. You think about what you need to do. You hold back on what you want to say because you don’t want to make any mistakes. You fear that other people may criticize your words when in point of fact, you are the one who’s being overly critical. While it’s true that you need to be cautious with your words, you don’t want to hold back to the point that you put off critical accomplishments.
When Mercury forms a conjunction to Jupiter, you find that it’s important to consider your future. You want to determine if the path you’ve chosen is one that brings you both spiritual and material satisfaction. You’re open to new concepts and are willing to take risks that don’t disrupt your past choices because there’s an interesting dichotomy in this conjunction. Jupiter wants to reach into the future and take risks that pushes the boundaries and brings greater rewards. But Jupiter is in the sign of Capricorn which increases your need to be conservative in your approach to life. The best way to use this energy is to understand what past events are important to you and find a way to use them as a foundation which you can build on as you make any changes in your life. Doing this will give you a better sense of security.
As Mars enters the sign of Sagittarius and Mercury forms a conjunction to the Moon’s South Node on January 3rd, you continue to consider what changes you may need to make in your life. There is a subconscious understanding of your goals because Mars is now in the sign that Jupiter rules. You realize that you need to be open to new concepts if you want to make changes. And, you need to trust in your abilities to make these changes.
When Mercury forms the conjunction to the Moon’s South Node a few hours later, you start thinking about past events again. This is a good day to review what you learned from those events. It’s also a good day to determine what is important to keep from your past and what you need to discard. Don’t be surprised if you run into people you haven’t seen in a while.
When Mars forms a trine to Chiron on January 5th, you understand that by letting go of past events that are no longer important, you can also bring more healing into your life. You realize that it’s important to pay attention to your needs and not let other people take advantage of you.
At the same time, you realize that you can’t rush into situations on January 7th as Mars forms a quincunx to Uranus retrograde. As much as you want to make changes in your life, you need to move slowly and not take any risks.
On January 8th, Mercury forms a sextile to Neptune while Jupiter forms a conjunction to the Moon’s South Node a few hours later.
When Mercury forms the sextile to Neptune, you want to go after your dreams and aspirations. You aren’t as concerned with facts as much as you are with your dreams. In the positive, this can mean that you find that connection between your soul and your material needs. In the negative, this can mean that you aren’t being realistic about what you want in life.
While this is a good day to spend meditating on situations in your life, don’t make any life altering decisions right now because you don’t have all the facts. Rather, just take whatever information surfaces and write it down for later consideration.
As Jupiter forms the conjunction to the Moon’s South Node, you realize that any dreams you have need to be based on your past experiences as well as any firm foundation that you’ve built in your life. Take time to consider whether you want to hold on to past lessons or if it’s time to let go of what doesn’t apply to your life any more. Embrace those aspects of your past which have enabled you to increase your current success. Find how to apply changes to the strong foundation that you’ve built in your life.
On January 10th, the first eclipse of the year occurs and several hours later Uranus turns direct. There will be a total of six eclipses in the year 2020. This is a penumbral lunar eclipse (also called an appulse lunar eclipse) which occurs at the time of a full Moon. In this case, the Sun will be in Capricorn and the Moon in Cancer. This eclipse emphasizes the Capricorn stellium very strongly because the Sun, Mercury, Ceres, Saturn, and Pluto are only separated by 2º42” and Jupiter and the Moon’s South Node in Capricorn formed a conjunction to each other two days earlier. The Moon will also appear larger than normal because this eclipse occurs three days before the Moon is in perigee. When the Moon is in perigee, it means that the Moon is at its closest point to the earth. If you live in North or South America, you won’t see this eclipse because its greatest point of vision will be in northwest India. However, you will feel this eclipse especially if you have important astrological points in Capricorn or Cancer.
Capricorn represents the importance of having a firm foundation and maintaining the status quo. On a spiritual level, Capricorn indicates the need to bring spirit from the higher plane and find a way to incorporate it into your daily life. On a material level, Capricorn represents the need to find a way to integrate yourself into society so you can find a level of peace and security. In the positive, Capricorn can represent how individuals find common ground so they can create a social setting that supports their needs. In the negative, Capricorn can represent oppression from leaders who fear changes which can take power away from them.
Because eclipses tend to obscure matters, you may not see all the global events which are playing out regarding leadership matters and their impact on the daily lives of specific populations. Or, you may see more revolts occur as people in society want to find their own rules and increase their own self-determination.
What this eclipse means on a personal level is that you need to look at your life and determine if the structure you’ve created in your life is working for you. You need to assess not only your long-term goals, but also your daily routine. Perhaps you need to spend more time with your family. Or, perhaps you need to take care of those small details you’ve been ignoring in life.
What makes this eclipse even more intense if that Uranus turns direct a few hours after the eclipse occurs. Uranus went retrograde on August 11, 2019. With the eclipse occurring you may have found that it’s important to pay attention to your life and not put off important tasks. But, with Uranus now turning direct, you may find that some of your value systems have changed. Or, you may receive some new information which changes your personal point of view. As a matter of fact, you may determine that you need to make changes because of the new information you received.
In the beginning of this article, I wrote about the importance of Mercury from the start of the month until January 16th because of the conjunctions Mercury makes to the various energy points in Capricorn. Now as Mercury forms a conjunction to Ceres on January 11th, the energy of Ceres becomes important until the end of the month when Ceres enters the sign of Aquarius on January 31st.
When Ceres is in Capricorn, you feel that you need to take care of other people, perhaps the entire world. Yet, it’s very important that you help other people by facilitating their own growth so they can learn how to make decisions on their own. Ceres in Capricorn is the ultimate mother earth because she understands just how important it is for you to learn spiritual values and find ways to implement those lessons on the earth plane.
As Mercury forms a conjunction to Ceres you feel responsible for taking care of other people. You may find that you take over meetings because you feel you have all the information. Or, you may take your responsibilities so seriously that other people feel as if you are stepping in their way. It’s difficult because of how responsible you feel.
When Mercury forms the conjunction to both Saturn and Pluto on January 12th, you take things very personally because of the stellium which includes the Sun, Ceres, Mercury, Saturn, and Pluto. There is only 1º07” separating them. Not only that, but Saturn and Pluto form a conjunction on that day and Ceres forms a conjunction to Pluto. On the following day, January 13th, Ceres forms the conjunction to Saturn and Venus enters the sign of Pisces.
When Mercury forms the conjunction to Saturn, you not only take things seriously, but you try to understand how it all works in the world. You try to find your place in society. Either you decide that it’s important to work with others, or you decide that you need to stand up for your rights.
As Mercury moves into the conjunction to Pluto, you find that you don’t want to let other people manipulate you. You want to make your own decisions. You approach situations with a single-minded purpose. Where this can be good is that you are focused on making certain everything works out well. But, where it could become negative is if you believe you are so right that everyone else is wrong.
When Saturn forms the conjunction to Pluto, you feel the potential conflict between maintaining a good foundation in life and still understanding the needs of others. Saturn represents foundations. It represents the need to keep the status quo. Pluto represents the underworld and the manipulation of other people. Yet there is also a positive side to Pluto. It can represent your understanding of other people and their needs. But if you don’t understand other people, this could be a very difficult day. People will want to fight to keep their status quo. They may want to manipulate situations in order to maintain their needs. And, this could also be a day where the very foundations are disrupted.
On a personal level, you need to take care of your foundations and make certain that other people don’t disrupt them. You need to make certain that what you hear is the truth and not a manipulation of situations. Because Pluto represents the ability to delve into your subconscious mind, you may find that you are able to understand your greatest fears and find ways to release those fears.
As Ceres form the conjunction to Pluto, you feel a deep sense of responsibility. You want to make certain that everything is done well. You don’t want to make any mistakes. At the same time, you don’t want other people to take advantage of you. Secrets are very important and you know how to keep them.
All of this sense of responsibility continues into January 13th as Ceres forms the conjunction to Saturn and Venus enters the sign of Pisces. Again, with Ceres in Capricorn you feel that you need to take care of matters in your life. You feel that you need to be in control and you may have difficulty letting other people do what they need to do.
It helps that Venus enters the sign of Pisces later in the day because you’re able to start letting go of control and start feeling more compassionate with situations in your life. While you still take things seriously, you also start understanding that perhaps you need to be more gentle both with yourself and others.
You definitely start viewing things in a different manner on January 15th when Venus forms a sextile to Uranus. You want to take risks, but at the same time, you don’t want to cause any injuries. You may run into some people you haven’t seen in a while. Or, you may feel as if things that are occurring are very similar to what’s happened in the past. Just don’t go out and take too many financial risks at this time.
When Mercury enters the sign of Aquarius on January 16th, you’re open to new ideas and concepts. You see situations from a different perspective. You’re willing to listen to other people and engage them in debate. At the same time, you don’t have tolerance for people who feel sorry for themselves.
Your willingness to consider new ideas continues when the Sun enters the sign of Aquarius on January 20th. You like doing unusual things. You’re tired of people doing the same thing over and over again. You want to move on with life.
When Mercury forms a sextile to Chiron on January 17th, you want to take care of your needs. You want to heal from any wounds. You don’t want to inflict any pain, either to yourself or others. You want to be open to new concepts and ideas. You want to see other people’s point of view, especially as part of the healing process.
It’s not going to be as easy being sensitive to other people’s needs on January 18th when Mercury forms a square to Uranus. You’re tired of people fighting. You don’t feel as if you want other people to get away with anything. If you’re not careful, you could get into some angry situations and problems.
It’s possible that a lot of information comes your way and you’re not ready for it. You don’t like what you’re hearing. You may be forced into a situation where you need to consider other people’s perspectives and you’re not ready for that.
When the Sun enters the sign of Aquarius on January 20th, you are more open to new ideas. You want to understand what’s going on in the world. You want to accept diverse ideas. At the same time, you don’t want other people to tell you what to do. You want to be your own person.
On January 23rd you’ve very hopeful when Venus forms a sextile to Jupiter. You want to see the positive in situations. You don’t want to take advantage of anything negative. You’re hopeful that situations can be resolved.
The new Moon which occurs on January 24th continues the energy of new ideas. New Moons are a time period to start something new in your life. This means that it’s a great time to consider new ideas. The old ways of doing things don’t necessarily work so well. But, at the same time you need to be a little careful because this new Moon also forms a square to Uranus. While Uranus does rule the sign of Aquarius, it is deposited by Venus which indicates that you need to maintain some compassion as you take on new ventures. You don’t want to throw everything out of your life as you make changes. You need to temper your enthusiasm for the new with a better understanding of the past and how to proceed forward in life.
Be very careful on January 28th when Mars forms a square to Neptune. You don’t see clearly. You may even feel as if you’re moving in a fog. You could be deceived by others. Or, you could get into an accident because you don’t see as clearly. Be very cautious.
When Ceres enters the sign of Aquarius on January 31st, you feel that you need to work for a higher goal in life. You want to be part of a group and you don’t want to work alone. At the same time, you may lack some compassion for others. It’s difficult to feel very emotional about situations. As long as you understand what everyone needs in the group, you’ll be able to do things in a better manner and bring in new ideas.
