Which Direction Now?

While the months of September and October 2018 seemed fairly benign, you’ll experience a lot of astrological energy in November, especially between November 6th and November 8th when you’re confronted with reviewing past events from the last seven to eight years as well as understanding some major paradigm shifts which occur between now and March 6, 2019. Both the Moon’s Nodal Axis and Jupiter enter new signs. Uranus retrograde re-enters the sign of Aries for the last time in 84 years to make certain that what began when Uranus initially entered the sign of Aries in 2010 is either cleaned up or imprinted for the next several years.
As the month of November begins, Chiron retrograde forms a trine to Jupiter on November 1st. This is a good day for healing. You feel as if you understand what causes pain in your life and how to relieve yourself of this pain. You’re willing to let go of negative circumstances in your life and move into the future. The past isn’t as important anymore.
But on November 3rd, you feel a little confused about your life. You felt that you could let go of the past and move forward. Now you’re not so sure with Venus retrograde forming a quincunx to Chiron retrograde. You want to understand what’s important. You don’t want the past pain to hold you back, but you’re a little confused. What you need to do today is determine whether the past you’re holding onto is actually something that other people are telling you is important. You need to decide if it’s important for you.
When Venus retrograde forms a conjunction to Ceres on November 5th, you gain insight into past events which still impact your life today. With this insight, you’re able to determine whether those past events actually matter anymore. You may decide that it’s time to let go and move on. Or you may realize that those events helped you in defining your life and embracing the lessons learned.
On November 6th, The Moon’s Nodal Axis changes signs and one hour later, Uranus retrograde re-enters the sign of Aries. This is the start of both a new paradigm shift indicated by the Moon’s Nodal Axis as well as a return to the past to correct problems which were created when Uranus entered Aries. When you experience the energy of a new start combined with the energy of reviewing past events, it’s important that you pause before taking the next step. As you pause, consider any events over the last seven to eight years which made an impact on your life. Determine what that impact was. Decide if you need to let go of past negative situations so you can move on with your life. Or, decide if you need to make certain these past events are operating as major building blocks in your life so you can more forward and ensure the success you seek in life.
When the Moon’s Nodal Axis changes signs, it means that the Moon’s North Node goes into one sign while the Moon’s South Node goes into the opposite sign. In this case, the Moon’s North Node enters the sign of Cancer while the Moon’s South Node enters the sign of Capricorn. This is a cycle that occurs approximately every 19 years and lasts for about 1.5 years. The Moon’s Nodal Axis will remain in Cancer and Capricorn until May 5, 2020.
In personal astrology, the Moon’s North Node represents the direction of your spiritual growth while the Moon’s South Node represents past events which help you understand how best to keep on your spiritual path. It’s an important cycle in your life and shows major points where you need to re-evaluate your spiritual goals and your practical application of those goals.
In mundane (political) astrology, the Moon’s North Node represents what you want from the leadership of your country while the Moon’s South Node represents the fears which leaders may promote in order to maintain their power.
The last time that this cycle occurred was between April 8, 2000 and October 12, 2001. The most notable event during that time period was the September 11, 2001 attack on the Twin Towers in New York City, the attack on the Pentagon in Washington, DC, and the loss of the passengers on Flight 93 as they tried to retake control of their hijacked plane. The second most notable event was the election of George W. Bush in November 2000 over Al Gore and the Supreme Court stepping in to prevent the recount of votes in Florida, giving Bush the victory.
The previous time period that this cycle occurred was between September 24, 1981 and April 15, 1983. During that time period, President Ronald Reagan signed Executive Order 12333 on December 4, 1981 which authorized the NSA to conduct surveillance on US and foreign-born citizens. On April 2, 1982, Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands, a remote British colony in the South Atlantic. Argentina claimed jurisdiction over the islands which Britain had ruled for over 150 years. Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher sent troops to the islands which were 8,000 miles away. By June 14, 1982, the British reclaimed the islands and the war was over.
When the Moon’s Nodal Axis is in Cancer and Capricorn, you want a safe home. You don’t want others invading your life. You expect leaders to provide this safety, even going to war if necessary. Cancer also doesn’t like a lot of chaos, even if it is a cardinal sign. So, the public often accepts constrictive laws if they believe those laws will provide safety.
With you wanting a safe home also comes the need for an increased sense of the importance of family. You want to be able to provide for them. You want them to be safe. You don’t want to go out as much and prefer the privacy of your home. For this reason, you might fear people who are different than you. You may want rules established that keep them out of your life. You are also more concerned with your privacy and more willing to see rules and regulation which prevent social media companies from gaining so much information about you.
For this reason, leaders that use fear to increase their power will focus on problems with immigration or diversity, insisting that people who are different cannot be part of the tribe. They will utilize rules and regulations to embed some of these concerns. An example of rules and regulations was Executive Order 12333 which Reagan signed in 1981.
But there also is some positive which comes during this cycle. While it’s true that people tend to get more conservative, they also start feeling more compassionate about others in their lives. With the tendency to put family first, they think of ways to communicate on a more intimate level. There is also a focus on health and nutrition. There is more emphasis on the need to eat locally sourced foods.
When Uranus retrograde re-enters the sign of Aries, this will be the last time for the next 84 years. Uranus entered the sign of Taurus on May 15, 2018. It turned retrograde in the sign of Taurus on August 7, 2018 when it reached 02º33”. This is not an unusual phenomenon with an outer planet. It enters a new sign for a few degrees and turns retrograde to re-enter the previous sign for a short period of time. When Uranus was in the sign of Taurus, it was introducing a new 84-year paradigm shift that would last for approximately 7 years. But, before that paradigm shift can fully take hold, situations with the previous paradigm shift either have to be solved or have to be fully embedded in society before the next paradigm shift occurs. What this means is that between now and March 6, 2019 when Uranus is in Aries for the last time in this cycle, you’ll see events repeat or other situations occur that are a direct result of those previous events.
The way to understand this is to review global and personal events over the last few years that Uranus was actually in Aries. Uranus originally entered the sign of Aries on May 28, 2010 and was in that sign until August 14, 2010. It retrograded back into the sign of Pisces and re-entered the sign of Aries on March 12, 2011. At that point it stayed in the sign of Aries until May 15, 2018 when it entered the sign of Taurus.
In writing this article, I’ve gone back and forth over which global events to list that are having an impact on our lives today. The list grew longer and longer. As I started creating the list, I realized that I was focusing on negative events more than some of the positive events which also occurred during the past seven years. That gave me pause to the point of rewriting this section several times. What I did see were several patterns. Uranus always represents upheaval of some form. New concepts are brought into the world which are either embraced or rallied against. Old concepts are shaken. All of us see a change in the status quo of the world. With Uranus in Aries human rights, especially women’s rights, has always historically been one of the areas of change. Other areas include conflict over the role of government where more people want to rule or more leaders want to repress popular movements. There’s also this increased importance of self. This can play out as leaders of various nations focus more on nationalism – the importance of a country as self. Or, it can play out as more people want personal freedoms so they can be their true selves. Or, it can even play out as narcissistic behavior, such as an increase in taking selfies and expecting experiences rather than responsibilities.
So when considering some of the past events, I thought of Wikileaks and Snowden, Arab Spring, #BlackLivesMatter, Brexit, same-sex couples having a fundamental right to marry in the United States and Australia, elections won by conservative factions, increased cyberattacks. Other events I thought of included the rise of new business models which challenge older business models, such as Lyft and Uber, Airbnb, and Amazon Prime. Because Uranus is in Aries, many of these changes are about the individual – you. You even see this “you” in changes regarding medical practices. While many of us complain about the computerization of your doctor visits, this can be used to your advantage. Doctors have faster access to various treatment options. You have access to your medical records so you can see what your doctor is really thinking when it comes to your treatment. There’s also targeted therapies and stem cell research. Again, all of this is just a little amount of the changes which started when Uranus was in Aries.
What this means for the world during this time period that Uranus retrograde will return to Aries for the last time is that both leaders and populations will still grapple with changes in their world order. This mean there will still be polarization. Some people will do everything they can to keep the world the way they knew it. Other people will welcome the changes crying for more equity and diversity in their lives. Economically you’ll see an increased rise in tariffs and national interest over globalization. Population shifts will continue in war torn and economically ravaged areas leading to more migrants moving between various countries. Privacy will be more difficult to maintain as more business models move to using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other forms of transaction via the internet. On a more positive side, you’ll see more computer technology used in the medical field which can lead to increased healing techniques. You see more people rely on locally-sourced foods as a means of improving their health.
And all of this is important on an even greater personal level. When Uranus re-enters the sign of Aries, it becomes important for you to review your life over the past seven years. Have you been able to embrace some of the changes that you’ve seen? Is technology a tool which is enabling you to work more efficiently? Or, are you now spending so much time on social media that you don’t have enough time to meet with your family and friends? Do you still need to make changes in your life so you feel more secure? This is an excellent time not only to review your life but also determine if, and where, you may want to make some changes before Uranus enters the sign of Taurus in March 2019.
As soon as Uranus re-enters the sign of Aries on November 6th, a cardinal grand cross occurs as Uranus forms a square to the Moon’s nodal axis and an opposition to the Venus retrograde/Ceres conjunction. This could become a day of crisis. What’s important to point out is the November 6, 2018 is the day of mid-term elections in the United States. The results won’t be as many people expect. Uranus in the sign of Aries calls for revolution from the status quo, but the Moon’s Nodal Axis in Capricorn and Cancer demands staying on the same path as not to cause any more disruption in life.
For you, this could be a day where you need to determine what’s best for you. You will need to find that balance between taking lessons learned from your past and deciding how those lessons can help you live a better life in the future. You’ll need to determine what helps you feel safe in a world where changes are going to continue. You may also need to develop new approaches to situations in life so you can meet any new challenges. It will be important to be as flexible as possible.
On the next day, November 7, 2018, a new Moon with Sun and Moon in Scorpio occurs. You may feel as if it’s a new start in your life. But you’ll want answers. With the new Moon forming a trine to Neptune retrograde, you may feel as if some important pieces of information are being withheld from you. If you do feel as if some important information is being withheld, slow down and reflect on the information you know. You may have the facts. Or, you may need to do more research.
Later in the day, Ceres forms a quincunx to Chiron retrograde. This energy could actually help you. You may not have all the facts yet, but you may know how to let go of past pain that stands in your way. You may be willing to compromise to get what you need. And, you may find that other people are also willing to compromise.
November 8th is going to be another day of intensity and paradigm shift as Jupiter forms a quincunx to Uranus retrograde a few hours before it leaves the sign of Scorpio and enters the sign of Sagittarius.
Both Jupiter and Uranus represent the need to move forward in life. However, because these two planets form a quincunx, especially two days after Uranus retrograde formed the cardinal grand cross, this is a day of havoc. Jupiter wants to justify its existence. Uranus retrograde wants to force some of the old ways to come back. This could be a day of backlash, especially in those areas where people felt that a lot of situations were pushed to the limit. The better plan is to wait and see what’s really going on.
As Jupiter enters the sign of Sagittarius on November 8, 2018 a few hours after it formed the quincunx to Uranus retrograde, you start feeling another new paradigm shift. Jupiter will be in the sign of Sagittarius until December 2, 2019. This is a 12-year cycle which lasts for about 13 months. Jupiter rules commerce, judicial matters, and higher education. With Jupiter entering the sign of Sagittarius, it is entering the sign which it rules. Sagittarius also represents commerce, higher education, and the judicial system. The last time that Jupiter was in Sagittarius was from November 24, 2006 to December 18, 2007. The time before, Jupiter was in Sagittarius from December 9, 1994 until January 3, 1996.
On a mundane level, Jupiter in Sagittarius is economic payback time. If the financial situation of either a country or person is not based on a solid foundation, you’ll see either countries or people having difficulties. It’s interesting to note that the United States, Canada, and Mexico signed the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and implemented it on January 1, 1994 when Jupiter was in Scorpio. The purpose of NAFTA was to promote free competition between the three countries by eliminating most tariff and non-tariff barriers for trade and investment. This would increase market access and investment opportunities. Now, during Jupiter in Scorpio, President Donald Trump has led the charge to renegotiate a new agreement which he said makes the financial arrangements better for the United States. His administration expects that Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto will be able to sign the agreement before he leaves office on November 30, 2018. During the time period that Jupiter is in Sagittarius, the new agreement will become implemented and could actually lead to increased costs of goods due to various tariff agreements written into the treaty.
Interest rates will continue to rise during the next year with Jupiter in Sagittarius and this will have an effect on both home mortgages and credit card debt. It is interesting to note that many advances in the use of credit cards occurred when Jupiter was in Sagittarius. In 1888, Edward Bellamy wrote a book, Looking Backward: 2000 – 1887, where he introduced a utopian society that used credit cards instead of cash. You’ll see a greater push from financial institutions and retail operations to stop using cash. Just recently, Wells Fargo issued a notice that they were changing their procedures on cash deposits to checking accounts requiring identification with any cash deposits. Yet, there will also be a backlash with people who prefer privacy and want to make their retail payments with cash so companies don’t track their purchases.
While there is a desire to hold on to the past with Uranus retrograde in Aries right now, there is also a desire to move into new frontiers with Jupiter entering the sign of Sagittarius. Over the past few years, smartphones have moved from the communications field, meaning making telephone calls, to become computerized devices for taking pictures, accessing the internet, and keeping in touch with the world that surrounds you and moves beyond your boundaries. You’ll see more Artificial Intelligence (AI) utilized with your various devices. The AI technology will try to develop algorithms which anticipate or even tell you what your needs are when it comes to retrieving information. But, algorithms are developed by humans and may actually include their personal biases in the designs. So, while AI technology may try to anticipate or “tell you” your needs, it’s critical to maintain skeptical about some of this information. Maintaining skepticism is also a Jupiter in Sagittarius trait. The biggest problem is that while you may want more privacy in your life, you’ll find your world more connected with the greater world. You’ll also find it more difficult to “get off the grid.”
Before Ceres enters the sign of Scorpio on November 11th, it forms an opposition to Uranus retrograde. This is a day to re-evaluate how you handled certain situations. You may even want to look at those areas of your life where you rushed into situations without considering the consequences. With Ceres forming the opposition to Uranus retrograde, you realize that there were times when you either threw out an ultimatum or compromised and lost what was important to you. Now with this opposition you can make notes about those parts of your life where you want to take control over your life again. You don’t want other people to tell you what to do. You don’t want to rush into situations without understanding what power you have. This is a good day to make note of the changes that you want in your life and the areas of consistency that are important to you.
When Ceres enters the sign of Scorpio you find yourself analyzing situations before you make any decisions. You want to help other people solve their problems as well. You have the ability to hold on to information. At the same time you have the potential to dig deeply into your soul and find the best path to move forward without having to issue ultimatums.
Before Mars enters the sign of Pisces on November 15th, it forms a sextile to Uranus retrograde. You feel comfortable with the changes you want to make in life. You’re willing to take calculated risks. You feel good about your own sense of individuality. If other people want to be involved in your life, that’s all right. If you need to do something on your own, that’s all right.
Normally Mars is not comfortable in the sign of Pisces. It prefers to hold back and perhaps even work behind the scenes. But the fact that Mars formed a sextile to Uranus retrograde before entering the sign of Pisces, this Mars feels different. You don’t feel the need to be out in the public. You prefer to stay behind the scenes, working more like a puppeteer and pulling the strings. You don’t want other people to know that you’re taking any action.
Venus turns stationary direct on November 16th. It went stationary retrograde on October 5, 2018. Later in the day, Mercury turns stationary retrograde.
When Venus was retrograde, you may have run into people from your past. During that same time period, you also had to deal with financial matters. Now that Venus is direct, you’re able to clear up any problems with people from your past. You know what you want in relationships and, especially with Venus in Libra, you’re willing to let other people know what you need in relationships.
You’re also able to clear up any financial matters that were causing you problems in the past. You understand what you need to do to create a budget that works for you.
But with Mercury in Sagittarius turning stationary retrograde later today, you may also feel that you can’t communicate all your needs to other people. You still have to think about your needs. Mercury will be retrograde until December 6, 2018 when it is in the sign of Scorpio.
Mercury isn’t comfortable in the sign of Sagittarius and it’s not comfortable when it’s retrograde. You want to move forward with your dreams of the future, but you can’t figure it all out right now. You also want to dispense information, but you may not have all the facts. And, those facts are difficult to find.
Sagittarius rules administrative and legal matters. It’s possible that some legal matters are revisited right now. You may even want to review your documents. If you need to deal with legal matters, they may not be resolved until December 6th when Mercury turns direct or even as late as December 12, 2018 when Mercury re-enters the sign of Sagittarius.
As Mars moves into the square to Jupiter on November 19th, the energy can go either way. You may feel as if you can achieve a lot and have the energy to do it. Or, you may feel as if you have so much energy that you are actually very tired. But, with Mars in Pisces, you probably don’t feel as if you want to expend too much energy. You’d rather sit around and let that energy just play in your head. This is a good day for daydreaming. It’s even a good day to let thoughts just come to your mind and think about possible things that you’d rather do later.
When the Sun enters the sign of Sagittarius on November 22nd, it will form a conjunction to Jupiter a few days later. You feel optimistic about life and what you can accomplish. You want to reach for the stars and you feel that you can do that. You may think about taking some special classes. Or, you may think about traveling. You just want to expand your horizons.
The Sun entered the sign of Sagittarius the day before. Now, on November 23rd, the full Moon with Sun in Sagittarius and Moon in Gemini, occurs. Emotionally you want to discuss matters with other people and give them all the information they need. Personally, you may find yourself justifying your behavior even if other people don’t care.
This is a day when you need to decide if you want to deal with matters that are close to home or if you want to think about your future goals.
The full Moon will form a square to Mars and this creates the energy of a mutable T-square. You want to make changes in your life and today is a good day to do that. You’re willing to think about your future goals and finding ways to achieve them, especially since the Sun will also form a conjunction to Jupiter in a few days.
Neptune turns stationary direct on November 24th. Neptune turned stationary retrograde on June 18, 2018. You may not notice the change of direction with Neptune because Neptune tends to work behind the scenes. What you will find is that your creativity increases as Neptune changes direction.
Mars forms a trine to Ceres on November 25th. Mars and Ceres can often have a symbiotic relationship. Mars represents the god Hades who kidnapped Ceres’s daughter Persephone. Mars often takes what he wants. Ceres, meanwhile, will fight for what she wants. Both of them fight by taking away things. However, this aspect is a trine which means that the planets can work together. In this case, you take the time to figure out what you want and go after it. You have the strength as well as the focus to achieve your goals. And, if you have to compromise along the way, you figure out how to do it. You understand that it’s better not to just take what you want but instead work with others to get what you want.
On November 27th, Mars forms a sextile to Saturn and almost one hour later Mercury retrograde forms a conjunction to Jupiter.
When Mars forms the sextile to Saturn you feel as if you can focus on what’s important in your life and place energy into any activity you want. But, with Mars in Pisces, your energy is going to be very low today. You may be focused, but you may be focused more on rest than achievement. Or, perhaps taking the time to rest is the achievement you need to accomplish.
As Mercury retrograde forms the conjunction to Jupiter, it appears that a triad sequence is in the process. But the last time that Mercury formed a conjunction to Jupiter in direction motion, both planets were in Scorpio and now they are both in Sagittarius. So, a triad sequence is not really going to occur.
Usually when Mercury forms a conjunction to Jupiter, especially in Sagittarius, you want to do a lot. You feel optimistic about what you can achieve. But, with Mercury retrograde today is actually a day for clean-up. It’s time to look at what you needed to accomplish before and either clean that up today or make plans for cleaning it all up when Mercury goes direct. Today may even be a good day to relax and just read a book.
Venus forms a quincunx to Chiron retrograde on November 28th. You want to make certain that you don’t take on any activities which could cause you injury. You also don’t want to spend time in any relationships which could cause you problems. You try to be nice to others and you do the best you can to avoid any arguments.
As the month of November ends, Ceres forms a sextile to Saturn on November 29th. Saturn can at times represent the god Zeus. He is an authority figure who believes in the patriarchal system while Ceres represents the matriarchal system. When these two planets form a sextile, you find opportunities which help you balance the masculine and feminine energies. You understand how to compromise without giving up your power. You know how to project your aura of authority so that other people listen. With Ceres in Scorpio, you listen well to others as they state their case. With Saturn in Capricorn, you come up with guidance which can help people resolve their problems.
