Change is Accelerating

As I write this May article, I think about what a new world there is out there. New terms are now in our vocabulary: Social Distancing; Staying in Place; We’re in This Together. I think about the increased polarization between people who feel we’re on the right track and need to continue for a bit longer and those who feel we’ve suffered enough and need to move on with our lives. Most of all I look at what is and what this has done: Accelerated the pace of change which was to come. Usually my articles focus on how best to use the astrological energies of the month. This article will continue to do that with the undercurrent and knowledge that the pace of change just ramped up.

The month of May starts with Venus forming a square to Neptune on May 3, 2020. This is not the first time that Venus forms a square to Neptune. It will also form a square to Neptune when it is in retrograde motion on May 20, 2020 and Neptune is direct. And, it will form a square to Neptune retrograde on July 27, 2020 when Venus is back in direct motion. This is what is known as a triad sequence where the same two planets form three aspects because the fastest moving planet, in this case Venus, goes retrograde.

Spiritually Venus and Neptune have a special relationship. Neptune is considered the higher octave of Venus. What that means in spiritual astrology is that the love of Neptune is unconditional. There are no boundaries to your love. You feel it for others, even strangers in your life. When Venus forms a square to Neptune, you feel frustrated.

When Venus forms a square to Neptune, you may feel frustrated that others are critical of you and you can’t experience this unconditional love. You want to find the blessings of relationships and you’re not certain it’s there. You may even feel that other people are deceiving you at this time. And, perhaps you’re right. You do need to be skeptical of promises that you hear right now. You need to realize that no one knows what’s actually going on.

Venus also rules your personal finances. And, with Venus forming a square to Neptune, you’re concerned about your finances to the point that it might be keeping you up at night. Even if the world were a different place, you would need to be cautious with your finances today because you might end up over paying for something you want, rather than what you need.

Because this aspect occurs three times, you need to be very careful of scams between now and July 27, 2020. These scams are designed to take money away from you by offering products or services and asking you to pay for them with gift cards. Or, these scams can prey on your insecurities by indicating that you will be in some sort of financial problems or worse, if you don’t make some form of payment to prevent an alleged legal action. Because Neptune is in Pisces, the scams may involve some form of purchasing pharmaceuticals or personal protection equipment (PPE). Or, it may involve an alleged hack of your computer where none is really occurring.

But there also are some positive things which can occur when Venus forms a square to Neptune. You may feel the need to use your creative energy in a way that brings more love into your life. People who are artistic find this energy gives them enough tension to finally get that painting finished or the book written.

This is a period to listen to your dreams. Jot down any that you have. Let those thoughts percolate in your conscious mind. And, as time passes and this aspect occurs two more times, revisit what you’ve written down because you realize that you can develop those dreams into aspirations and later into realistic plans.

On May 5th, a new paradigm shift is brought to the surface as the Moon’s Nodal Axis changes signs. This means that the Moon’s North Node will move into Gemini and the Moon’s South Node will move into Sagittarius. The Moon’s Nodal Axis will be in these signs until January 18, 2022. This is a cycle that occurs approximately every 19 years and lasts for about a year-and-a-half.

In astrology, the Moon’s Nodal Axis is seen as a spiritual aspect of your being. The Moon’s North Node represents where you want to be and the Moon’s South Node represents where you came from. Another way of looking at this is that the Moon’s North Node represents what you need to do to in order to continue your personal growth while the Moon’s South Node represents your past concerns and even potential fears which you must overcome in order to move on with your life.

When the Moon’s North Node is in Gemini, communications become more important. This means knowing when to talk about situations as well as knowing how to listen. You also find that you are interested in getting as much information as possible. In the negative, you might get stuck in the trivia of matters and forget to use the information you receive as a learning tool. But, in the positive, you realize that the information you are gathering will help you understand situations because you are striving to know the truth.

Another aspect of the Moon’s North Node in Gemini is that your neighbors become more important. You want to find your place in your community and be a part of this social order. This aspect of the Moon’s North Node is less recognized but you may see it in greater evidence now. While staying in place occurs in my area, there are more people walking the neighborhoods and taking time to shout out a greeting of friendship. In areas where people are in their homes, they shout from the balconies, put signs of care in their windows, or even create special artwork conveying hope on their properties.

With the Moon’s South Node in Sagittarius you may be concerned that you’re gathering too much information. You may feel confused because the facts don’t make sense. Or, you may feel overwhelmed because there is too much news about the pandemic or other situations out there. And next thing that happens is that you don’t want to share any information.

You may even question your spiritual values. Even when the world isn’t in crisis, there is a tendency to question spiritual values when the Moon’s South Node is in Sagittarius. You may even become cynical about boundaries imposed by others. Yet the lesson here is to find that balance between your spiritual beliefs and your daily life. Don’t be at all surprised if you find a lot more self-help apps introduced or people lecturing on pod casts or other social media on the importance of taking care of your spiritual needs.

In mundane and political astrology, the Moon’s North Node represents what a country wants to strive for, especially when considering its position in the world. It indicates what leaders deem are of value for a country to prosper. It also represents what the public expects of its leaders, as well as what the public wants as citizens of a nation.

Meanwhile the Moon’s South Node can represent the activities which can hinder a country’s growth. Or it can represent what the public fears more and how leaders use this fear to their advantage.

What’s important when looking at trends from an astrological point of view isn’t that a new trend suddenly starts at the time that the Moon’s Nodal Axis changes signs: Or, for that matter when any outer planet changes signs. Rather, when this instance occurs, some of the trends that were starting become institutionalized. And, these trends become part of the foundation of global events and trends.

Usually the institutionalization of these shifts is slow. But, with the coronavirus epidemic throughout the world right now, these shifts are occurring on a faster pace than ever before. You may want to know that the last time that this nodal axis occurred was between October 12, 2001 and April 13, 2003. If you’re a historian, you might also remember that the first case of SARS (technically known as SARS-CoV [coronavirus]) was recorded in Foshan City, Guangdong Province, China on November 16, 2002. About eight months later, on July 5, 2003, the World Health Organization (WHO) issued a statement that the global SARS outbreak was contained. On December 31, 2003, WHO indicated that 29 countries and regions had reported SARS infections.

When the Moon’s North Node is in Gemini and the Moon’s South Node is in Sagittarius, you’ll see the greatest paradigm shifts in communications, education, travel, and both local and foreign governmental affairs.

For the last several years, you’ve heard about the implementation of 5G technology and how it will increase the speed of your device and even let you download movies and other services in a matter of seconds instead of minutes. When 5G is reported in the media, the emphasis always seems to be on the roll-out plans for your smartphone or other device. At least that’s the case in the United States.

But there’s more to the 5G technology than just giving you an opportunity to get entertainment on your device faster. Governments are looking at 5G for other purposes: Using wireless technology to guide autonomous vehicles (AV), such as driverless cars or trucks, or even drones through different neighborhoods or parts of the country; Utilizing various healthcare applications from simple data collection of your medical records to eventually performing robotic surgery; Setting up a digital home where everything from your appliances to your security system work through a wireless system and can be controlled through your device; Increasing the use of facial recognition so that you can conduct financial transactions or even travel abroad by just letting a screen take a picture of your face. Even now my device sees various pictures I’ve taken and “asks” me if one of them is a selfie so it can use that picture.

The current coronavirus pandemic is speeding up this process. Because of “stay in place,” the use of wireless technology has increased. More people are using social media apps, such as Zoom or Skype, or any of the other what I call “meeting apps.” These virtual meetings are now used for online classes, business meetings, and social gatherings to a degree never considered before. Churches are holding virtual services. Even court systems are now conducting some cases virtually. And, if this pandemic continues, more countries will need to find ways to let people vote, if not virtually than by the postal service.

While virtual meetings are not new, the extent of the meetings is new. And, having 5G technology becomes more important. So, whether you like it or not, the way that people are communicating is changing. And the communication changes you see today will have a long-term impact.

Some of the impact will seem simple. Some small colleges or universities may decide to increase their online presence because it gives them an opportunity to reach more people. While people may return to their churches once the stay-in-place orders are rescinded, more clergy will use the technology they needed to learn right now as a means of increasing their social reach. And there will be a change in how court systems conduct their cases.

The dark side of all this use of wireless technology is increased use of data collection. You know that your device can track your location or track your preferences in a number of ways. In the past companies and political organizations used this data information to send you targeted ads. Now they’ll be able to send you targeted messages about a variety of topics.

Travel will also change. People want to feel safe when they travel, just as they wanted to stay safe after new travel restrictions were implemented following September 11, 2001 (the terrorist attack known as 9-11). During the previous time that the Moon’s Nodal Axis was in Gemini and Sagittarius, travel restrictions were put in place to make certain that unsafe items didn’t make it to the airplane. Now you’ll see travel restrictions that attempt to prevent unsafe people from making it to the airplane. Whether these travel restrictions come in the form of measuring your temperature, having you walk through a UV machine, or carrying a “health clearance card” from your doctor or government still remains to be seen.

There will be so many more changes during the time period that the Moon’s North Node is in Gemini and the Moon’s South Node in Sagittarius based on what is going on today. They will all surround how information is handled and disseminated from the news media to your own personal relationships. So, as the Moon’s Nodal Axis changes signs today, May 5th, it’s important for you to reach out to people not only in your personal life, but also in your neighborhood. Take time to communicate and maintain social relationships even if they are at a distance or virtually. You don’t need to go through all of this alone.

As we move into a full Moon on May 7th, Mercury forms a sextile to Neptune just a few minutes before the full Moon occurs.

When Mercury forms a sextile to Neptune, you sense things around you. Your intuition is extremely high. It’s important not to get sucked into any negative thoughts today because you’re able to feel so much more and your logical mind can’t always process the information. But in the positive, you’re able to come up with solutions that don’t make sense to you, but somehow they work. At the same time other people may try to take advantage of you and not tell you the entire story. So, as good as it may look, don’t sign any contracts today or purchase anything of extreme value. It’s a good thing that Mercury is in Taurus because you tend to think things over before you act on situations.

This need to think things over continues with the full Moon. With the Sun in Taurus and the Moon in Scorpio, you feel as if you need to take what you value and find ways to increase that value in your life. You don’t want to talk about situations too much. You value your privacy and you want to keep it that way. You want to build a foundation that is solid in your life, as the Sun forms a trine to the Pluto retrograde/Jupiter conjunction and the Moon forms a sextile. At the same time you also want to go after your dreams as the Moon forms a trine to Neptune and the Sun forms a sextile. With the energy of Mercury forming a sextile to Neptune during the time of this full Moon you feel things deeply as you seek ways to create stability in your life.

On May 9th, you feel very empowered as Mercury forms the trine to Pluto retrograde. You can understand the strategies behind plans. You understand what other people mean, even if their method of communicating is a bit scrambled. You start realizing what’s important in your life.

You feel optimistic about situations on May 10th as Mercury forms a trine to Jupiter. On a global scale, there is some good news coming which adds to this sense of optimism. When it comes to your relationships, you realize there are people in your life who support your efforts. You also find that you have a lot to give back.

Usually when Saturn turns retrograde, as it does on May 11th, you don’t feel the energy. You just feel a little sluggish and want to take things slowly. But this time it’s different. Saturn is in the sign of Aquarius and only entered the sign on March 21, 2020. On July 1, 2020, Saturn will re-enter the sign of Capricorn and remain there until December 17, 2020 when it re-enters the sign of Aquarius and finally begins its 2.5-year implementation of trends represented by Saturn in Aquarius.

During the Saturn retrograde period, governments will focus on improving their infrastructures, especially as it relates to computer technology. Not only will the government focus on technology, but more companies will focus on increasing the rollout of 5G technology. More towers will be built. In addition, you see more technology companies working today to develop apps which let you interface in an easier manner with others.

On a personal level, you’ll re-evaluate your own infrastructure. This means that you’ll determine if you need to make home improvements. Or, you’ll find yourself fighting for improved air quality. You’ll wonder how you can improve your little part of the world and just what it will cost you to do so.

Later in the day, Mercury enters the sign of Gemini. Now you want to talk about your concerns. You want to gather as much information as possible so you can find a way to do something about it. Perhaps you may even decide to join some groups or organizations which share your values.

As you consider what changes you want to make in your life, you find it easier to come up with some plans on May 12th as Mercury forms a trine to Saturn retrograde. This is a good day to develop plans of action. It’s also a great day to get rid of old things which stand in your way. While you won’t be able to achieve everything today, you feel good that you know what to do. You’re even able to develop incremental steps so you don’t have to do it all at once.

On May 13th, Mars enters the sign of Pisces and a few hours later, Venus in Gemini goes retrograde. With both of these energies operating today, don’t be at all surprised if you would rather retreat and turn inward.

When Mars is in Pisces, you feel a sense of discomfort. Mars likes to be in your face and Pisces wants to retreat and retire. What this energy really means is that you need to reflect and take care of your needs. Don’t let yourself get sucked into taking care of other people who pretend but don’t really need your help.

When Venus turns retrograde a few hours later, the desire to turn inward increases. Venus will be retrograde until June 25th.

Venus retrograde is not always understood yet it’s important for you to pay attention to this retrograde planet because there are several ways that it can impact you.

When Venus is retrograde, you need to be very careful with your finances. There are always hidden costs involved with any major purchases. Or, something that you thought was of value actually costs less than what you paid for it. On a greater global level, it could mean that any government programs which are being developed due to the coronavirus crisis will cost even more than anticipated. Or, it could also mean that any governmental financial rescue programs are more difficult to implement.

Not only does Venus rule finances, but it also represents your feelings of self-worth and your relationships with others. If there are difficulties in relationships that you were avoiding, you be forced to resolve them. In some instances the resolutions may be easy. You realize that all you need to do is either forgive the other person or ask for forgiveness. In other instances, you need to stand up for your rights and not give in to the other person’s demands.

In relationships that are going well, you may be willing to take them to the next level. Perhaps you were thinking that it’s time to make a commitment. Or, perhaps you just want to spend time with people you love.

It’s also interesting that when Venus is retrograde, people from your past come back into your life.

On the next day, May 14th, Jupiter also turns retrograde. It will be retrograde until September 12, 2020. Again, this is another planet which is often overlooked during its retrograde period.

When Jupiter goes retrograde, it’s time to re-evaluate the direction of your life. With Jupiter in Capricorn, it could indicate your work life. Or, it could also relate to your spiritual values. When you go through a difficult time period, you may feel that it’s harder to set your goals. But, once again it’s important that you consider your needs.

You also want to find your place in society when Jupiter is in Capricorn by developing a strong foundation. And, with everything going on in the world, what you thought was your foundation may no longer exist or may be shifting. Jupiter represents the need to understand the greater world around you. So, this is a good time to reach out to other people. Offer them support, just as you allow them to give you support. The more we reach out to others, the more we’ll be able to move forward with our lives.

When Jupiter is retrograde you don’t want to start any legal action, especially with Jupiter in Capricorn. If you own your own business, you don’t want to begin any major marketing campaign because the cost will be higher than you anticipated. And, if you are able to re-open your business to the public, take your time. Don’t jump in too quickly. With Jupiter retrograde you’ll be more successful if you do it in incremental steps.

Less than 30 minutes after Jupiter turns retrograde, Mercury forms a square to Ceres and you are reminded on how important it is to move slowly with any changes in your life. You want to pay attention to your own environment as you take steps to make certain you’re safe. You may decide, with Ceres in Pisces and Mercury in Gemini that you want to either create or change your sacred space. You’ll be able to tap into your creative nature so that you can make your space, as well as your entire home, more comforting.

May 15th is a great day for healing as Mercury forms a sextile to Chiron. You’re able to hear what the other person is saying. And, the other individual is willing to listen to you. You don’t want to take anyone or anything for granted. You are open to new ideas if they bring healing into your life.

As the Sun enters the sign of Gemini on May 20th, you want to find ways to express what’s important to you. You want to make certain that you can communicate with others in your life.

After the Sun enters Gemini, Venus retrograde forms its second square to Neptune in this triad sequence. The first time this aspect occurred was on May 3, 2020 when both planets were direct. The last time this aspect occurs is on July 27, 2020 when Venus is direct and Neptune is retrograde.

When Venus formed the first square to Neptune, you wanted to go after your dreams. But you needed to be careful. Now you may feel the same way: You want to go after those dreams. But when there is an aspect between Venus and Neptune, you need to be cautious with your finances. You don’t have all the facts. The same can be true in your relationships with others. Be careful with any relationships that involve money.

Continue writing about your dreams. Continue making plans, but don’t act on them. Just list them so you can keep researching information and gathering facts. By July 27, 2020, you’ll have all the facts you need to make the right decisions.

Before the new Moon occurs on May 22nd, Mercury forms a square to Neptune. During the time of the new Moon, you want to communicate your needs. But, you’re not totally sure what those needs are with Mercury forming the square to Neptune. You’re kind of floating in the dark. You want to understand what’s important in life, but all of that may have changed right now. Try to listen to your inner feelings but be aware that you may not communicate them very well. And be careful that other people aren’t trying to deceive you. Also, be very careful that you don’t get trapped into any scams that are floating out there. Between this aspect and the fact that the new Moon will occur shortly, you’ll see an increase in misinformation, scams, or even computer hacking.

With the New Moon in Gemini, you want to continue communicating your needs. This new Moon forms a trine to Saturn retrograde so you are re-evaluating your place in the world. You want to see good happening in the world. You want to take care of the environment. But, you aren’t certain about the costs and how society will accept some of the changes. Because Mercury formed a square to Neptune before this new Moon occurred, take time to analyze what you want to do. If possible, talk to people you trust and listen to their input.

Usually when Mars forms a conjunction to Ceres, as it does on May 24th, you want to make changes in your environment. You want to fix things. But both planets are in Pisces which means that you’d rather pull back and not do too much today. This is a good day to rest and meditate. Listen to what other people have to say, but don’t get sucked into their drama. Be supportive but also take care of your needs first.

Mercury forms a quincunx to Pluto retrograde and a few hours later Mars forms a sextile to Uranus on May 25th. Sometimes when these two energies occur, you feel a bit unsettled. With Mercury forming the quincunx to Pluto retrograde, you have difficulty communicating your thoughts. You don’t totally trust the other person or any new information you receive. You want to think about things. You don’t want to be pressured into making a decision. Listen to that feeling and hold off on any major decisions today.

As Mars forms the sextile to Uranus a few hours later, you may receive some new information, but again it’s important not to jump into situations. And, with this aspect, you are tempted. If you rush in too quickly, you may injure yourself or make a serious mistake. Instead, take any new information you receive and ponder on it. The good news is that Mars is in Pisces which may help slow down your actions.

May 26th can be another unsettling day as Ceres forms a sextile to Uranus and Mercury forms a quincunx to Jupiter retrograde.

When Ceres forms the sextile to Uranus, you want to make changes in your environment. But you need to be careful that you don’t move too quickly and throw out some important information. You want to think about what changes you can make, but you don’t want to act on those changes yet.

As Mercury moves into the quincunx to Jupiter retrograde you start feeling confused about your goals. You have too many of them. And, you’re finding it difficult to prioritize. You need to pull back and just watch or listen. You need to think about the various possibilities but not take any action right now. Instead, pay attention to your needs and consider what baby steps you can take at this time.

Just before Mercury enters the sign of Cancer on May 28th, it forms a conjunction to the Moon’s North Node. The previous two days were unsettling. It was difficult to make any decisions on future goals or projects. But today is different. Today you have a better understanding of your needs. Normally when this aspect occurs, you’re ready to discuss matters with other people, but with Mercury entering the sign of Cancer it’s easier to listen.

When Mercury is in the sign of Cancer, you want your privacy. You don’t want to share information about your life. As a matter of fact, you don’t want anyone to give you any advice. It’s more important for you to be safe and not take any risks.

As the month ends, Mercury forms a quincunx to Saturn retrograde on May 29th. All through this month you realize that things are different. Life isn’t the same as it was several months ago. And with Mercury forming the quincunx to Saturn, you understand just how much things are different. You need to re-evaluate your goals so you can create a safer foundation. The old rules no longer apply and you need to develop new rules. You’re getting mixed messages from government leaders, so it’s time to just listen. Usually you can take your time when reflecting on change. But in this new world with the pace of change accelerating, you realize the adjustments that you need to make may have to occur a lot faster than you expected.
