Be Responsible Yet Flexible

The year of 2019 begins with Mercury forming a square to Chiron on January 3rd. Mercury is nearing the end of Sagittarius and actually at the point of the galactic center. With Mercury at this point and forming a square to Chiron, there’s a tendency to say too much. On one hand, you don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings. On the other hand, because you say too much, you actually cause more harm. Or, you may want to protect yourself from feeling that other people may hurt you so you start justifying your actions when you’re better off just keeping your mouth shut.

But this aspect could also become a positive situation. As you pause to consider your words, you may find that you can take action that brings healing into your life.

On January 4th, Mercury forms a trine to Uranus just before it leaves the sign of Sagittarius and enters the sign of Capricorn later in the evening. Now you feel more optimistic in your social interactions. You’re open to new ideas. You get excited about things that are happening in your life. You want to take risks, but you need to pay attention to your environment so you don’t end up in an accident.

When Mercury enters the sign of Capricorn later in the evening you realize that you need to apply some structure to those new ideas that occurred earlier in the day. Rules and regulations are important. You start taking things more seriously. While you don’t want other people to tell you what to do, you are still willing to work with the rules of society. You understand the importance of responsibility.

But something more important occurs when Mercury enters the sign of Capricorn. Six energy points are now in Capricorn: Mercury, the Moon, Saturn, the Sun, Pluto, and the Moon’s South Node. This concentration of Capricorn energy is prominent not only now, but also tomorrow, January 5th, when the partial solar eclipse occurs. With all this energy in Capricorn you feel an increased sense of responsibility. You don’t want to break any rules. You want to get along with social norms.

Venus forms a trine to Chiron before the partial solar eclipse occurs on January 5th and a quincunx to Uranus retrograde after the eclipse. With Venus forming a trine to Chiron, you are willing to show more compassion to others. You don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings. With Venus in the sign of Scorpio, you’re willing to listen to their concerns. And, you’re willing to keep their secrets.

The eclipse that occurs on January 5th is the first eclipse of the year. This is a partial solar eclipse which occurs at the time of the new Moon. At this time both the Sun and Moon are in the sign of Capricorn. The only place in the United States that you’ll see this eclipse is in the southwestern portion of Alaska, such as Ankara, Adaic, and Unalaka. This eclipse will be seen in the northern portion of the Pacific Ocean and northeast Asia, such as Beijing, Seoul, Taipei, and Tokyo. It is part of the Saros 122 series.

The strong energy of Capricorn continues with Mercury, Saturn, the Moon, the Sun, Pluto, and the Moon’s South Node all in Capricorn. The intensity of this eclipse indicates that responsible leadership is the key focus of this eclipse. In those areas of your life where you skirted responsibility you’ll be called upon to become responsible. In those areas of your life where you took over someone else’s responsibility, you’ll be put into a position where you need to hold them accountable. Either way, you won’t be able to hide from accountability.

Not only do you need to understand your responsibilities, but you also need to review the rules and regulations which are important in your life. You need to make certain that you’ve established boundaries so it’s easier for you to succeed. You may even find that you’re becoming more conservative.

In mundane astrology, this eclipse means that you have to watch conservative movements because they may be doing things behind the scenes. You also want to make certain that some laws which are passed don’t cause you to lose your personal freedoms. For leaders of various countries, there may be strife as populations require more accountability from their leaders.

With Venus forming the quincunx to Uranus retrograde after the eclipse, you find that you’re not willing to put up with rules that others try to place on you. If anything prevents you from being an individual, you’ll do what you can to stop that from happening. Standing up for your rights becomes more important and you don’t care who you might hurt in the process.

Uranus in Aries turns stationary direct on January 6th. Normally this change of direction with Uranus isn’t that important. But, as Uranus changes direction it’s also preparing to leave the sign of Aries for 84 years and move into the sign of Taurus on March 6, 2019. Between now and March, you need to look at the changes you’ve made in your life over the past seven years and determine how important they are. Some people may decide the changes weren’t right and go back to doing things the way they used to do them. Others will decide that incorporating the changes will help them in the long run. The reality is that when Uranus was in Aries during these last seen years, society underwent radical changes and there’s no turning back. That’s actually the biggest lesson to be learn between now and March 9, 2019.

When Venus enters the sign of Sagittarius on January 7th, you want to go out and explore. You want to take advantage of knowledge. You want to expand your mind. You value new experiences which bring greater knowledge. You feel as if you have the energy to achieve great things.

Before Jupiter forms a square to Neptune on January 13th, Mercury forms a conjunction to Saturn. You may be taking yourself too seriously. It’s difficult for you to have fun. At the same time, you can achieve a lot because you’re able to focus on your goals. This is important because when Jupiter forms the square to Neptune there’s a tendency to push your boundaries. With Mercury forming the conjunction to Saturn, you’ll know which boundaries you can push and which boundaries you need to maintain.

When Jupiter forms the square to Neptune, this will be the first time this square occurs in this triad sequence. The next time this square occurs is on June 16, 2019 when Jupiter is retrograde and Neptune is direct. The last time this square occurs is on September 21, 2019 when Jupiter is direct and Neptune is retrograde.

While Jupiter is in the sign of its rulership, Sagittarius, it also co-rules the sign of Pisces with Neptune. Both planets deal with pushing limits: Jupiter by rolling over boundaries with abandon and Neptune by dissolving boundaries. Both indicate that you can be unrealistic in your approach to life. Both also indicate that you can be idealistic in how you handle situations in your life.

When these planets form a square to each other, you may find it difficult to know when to stop pushing your boundaries; you find it difficult to be realistic in your approach. You may also have high expectations that can’t be met.

With this square occurring for the first time in this triad sequence it’s important to pause and re-evaluate your life. Ask yourself: Are you approaching situations in your life realistically? You may need to push the boundaries, but is the price worth it? You may also need to remove preconceived notions in order to move forward with your life.

When this square occurs for the second time in June 2019, Jupiter will be retrograde while Neptune is direct. This will be the time to review some of your long-term goals to determine if you’re on track. You’ll also need to be honest with your expectations if you want to succeed. If you are deceiving yourself and justifying unrealistic actions, you’ll pay the price in September 2019 when this square occurs for the third and last time. However, if you are realistic in your expectations and actions, you’ll be able to dissolve those final boundaries that are preventing your success.

Normally when Mercury forms an aspect to Neptune, as it does on January 14th, this can indicate that you’re scattered and unfocused. However, today is different. Mercury is in the sign of Capricorn and forming a sextile to Neptune. You’re able to understand your spiritual and creative nature and how to use that energy in the world. You may want to approach things in a conservative manner, but at the same time you feel inspired to take risks. This inspiration can lead to a motivation which enables you to succeed.

When Mercury forms the conjunction to Pluto on January 18th, you’re focused on achieving your goals. You don’t want anything to get in your way. You feel passionate about your tasks. Just be a little careful: Don’t be so focused that you miss out on some important details.

On January 20th, the Sun enters the sign of Aquarius and Venus forms a square to Neptune. With the Sun entering the sign of Aquarius, you want to spend more time with your friends. You like being social. You’re open to new ideas as well as meeting new people. You’re even willing to makes changes in your appearance. But, you may also be so willing to change that your friends are beginning to get worried that you’re becoming too eccentric.

As Venus forms the square to Neptune, you continue to show signs of eccentricity. You may find it difficult to approach life realistically. You’re looking for the truth, but only if that truth is what you want to hear. You’re looking for the perfect soulmate but only if that individual is willing to meet your expectations. Be very careful in your interactions with others. You may be seeing what you want and not what’s really there.

The day after the Sun enters the sign of Aquarius, the second eclipse of the year occurs on January 21st. Following the eclipse Mars forms a square to Saturn and Ceres forms a quincunx to Uranus and a trine to Chiron.

The eclipse occurs at the time of a full Moon with the Sun in Aquarius and the Moon in Leo. This is a total eclipse, called a Blood Moon, because of the color red that the Moon becomes at the height of the eclipse. Not only will the eclipse be seen in North and South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Pacific, Atlantic, Indian Ocean, and the Arctic, but you’ll be able to see it in the Washington, DC area at 12:12 am EST. This eclipse is part of the Saros 134 series.

With the Sun in Aquarius and the Moon in Leo, you may want to re-evaluate your relationships, especially with friends. The question to ask yourself is if your friends are supporting your goals and if you’re doing the same for them. This is especially true since Venus is applying to a conjunction with Jupiter. And, this Venus/Jupiter conjunction is forming a square to Neptune.

This is also a time period to re-evaluate some of your volunteer commitments. While you want to give back to the community, you don’t want to do so much that you no longer have time for a personal life.

Even though eclipses obscure matters, this is a great time to consider new and innovative approach to situations in your life. You may find that you’re willing to try new things. Or, you may decide that some of your old approaches are valid.

Since the Moon’s Nodal Axis is still within aspect to the square it formed to Uranus in November 2018 don’t be surprised if events that occurred in November are resurfacing now. During that time period, you may have felt as if your life was out of control. You also may have felt that you needed to fight for your rights. Now you need to find ways to bring control back into your life.

During this lunar eclipse pull back from chaos and don’t let any impact you. Rather, try to find ways that you can welcome diversity into your life. There will be unexpected events that occur, but it’s important that you are flexible.

With Saturn, Pluto, and Mercury also in Capricorn and conjunct the Moon’s South Node, you may feel as if things that you said in the past are now coming back to haunt you. Check old paperwork to make certain everything is in order. Accept responsibility for your actions but don’t let other people expect you to be responsible for their actions. If you find some old rules don’t work anymore, make some adjustments in your life.

After the eclipse, Mars forms a square to Capricorn while Ceres forms a quincunx to Uranus and a trine to Chiron. You may feel frustrated as if you can’t move forward. The key is to relax and slow down. If you can do this, you’ll find that situations seem to resolve on their own and you are protected from any harm.

When Venus forms a conjunction to Jupiter on January 22nd you feel a sense of relief. You feel good about yourself. You know that you can accomplish a lot. Your charisma is high. Other people are willing to do what they can to help you. You’ll also find that it’s easier to network and meet new people. The operative phrase here is “Ask and you shall receive.”

On January 23rd, Mercury forms a square to Uranus, a sextile to Chiron, and a sextile to Ceres. Communications is very important. With Mercury forming a square to Uranus, it may be difficult to listen to what other people say. You may be receiving so much new information that you have difficulty processing this information. You may even feel that some of it is contradicting your belief systems.

As Mercury forms the sextile to Chiron, you’ll realize that some of this new information can actually help you heal from past pain. And, as Mercury forms the sextile to Ceres you’ll see how you can use all of this energy to improve your environment. If you need to compromise on any situation, you’ll be able to compromise from a position of strength.

When Mercury enters the sign of Aquarius on January 24th, you’ll be able to process all that new information you heard yesterday. Now you’re willing to try new things. You’ll also be able to explain your ideas to your friends even if the ideas seem eccentric.

Mars forms a trine to Jupiter and Ceres enters the sign of Sagittarius on January 25th, you feel very confident in your abilities to solve any problems. When Mars forms the trine to Jupiter you have a lot of energy. You’re willing to push the boundaries and try whatever it takes to succeed. Just don’t push yourself so much that you exhaust yourself.

When Ceres enters the sign of Sagittarius you feel that you want to learn as much as possible about life and your spiritual development. Your optimism continues. Just make certain that you approach any new situations realistically. While you may be open to a lot of new ideas, it’s important to maintain your focus so you can stay on track and follow-up on any new ventures.

As the month ends, Saturn forms a sextile to Neptune on January 31st. This is the first time in this triad sequence that this aspect occurs. The next time it occurs is on June 18, 2019 when Saturn is retrograde and Neptune is direct. The final time it occurs is on November 8, 2019 when Saturn is direct and Neptune is retrograde.

Saturn represents the need to establish boundaries while Neptune represents the need to dissolve boundaries. Saturn is also the practical aspect of behavior while Neptune is the idealistic aspect of behavior. It would appear that these two planets are not in harmony especially since each is in its rulership which increases the strength of these planets. But this aspect is a sextile. This means that you have a way to find harmony between the two energies. You’re not a rigid as you’ve been in the past. You’re open to new ideas. You’re willing to try new things. At the same time, you know when to stop. You know how far you can push the rules without creating problems.

Today you may want to take risks but you’re not ready. That’s all right. Today is actually a day to meditate on your aspirations and create a plan of action. Put in some short-term milestones to your long-term goals so you can measure your success. The second time this aspect occurs in June 2019, review your milestone and praise your achievements. If you need to make changes do that in June. When this aspect occurs for the last time in November 2019, review your milestones again and praise your achievements. If you’re on track, you’ll find that most of your milestones have been achieved.
